Located on the eastern side of Glacier National Park, St Mary Lake is one of the larger lakes in the park. Wild Goose Island, pictured here, is the site of a Native American version of the Romeo and Juliet story--two lovers from warring families met on the island to avoid the wrath of their relatives.
In brief, the story tells of a pair of young lovers from different, inimical tribes. The handsome brave and fair maiden swim to the island from opposite sides of the lake and fall in love. Their communities are opposed and work to keep the young lovers separate. When the couple reunite on the island, both tribes send warriors to bring the young people back home, no matter what it takes. The Great Spirit takes pity on the couple, and changes them into geese, a species that mates for life. When the warriors reach the island, all they find are two geese who fly away never to return.

Born in Montana, raised in California, I have been holding a camera most of my life. I particularly love photographing the grand landscapes of the Pacific Northwest. Involved in photography all my life--starting out as a model for my father, a terrific photographer in his own right. Got my first Brownie Box Camera as a child, and have never looked back. Got serious when I inherited my father's Kodak 35mm viewfinder camera, then moved on to Single Lens Reflex cameras. Finally joined the digital revolution in the fall of 2006. Today, most of my work is done with a Nikon D810 digital SLR fitted with various Nikkor and Sigma lenses.
