Description
The Columbia County Courthouse, located in Dayton, Washington, was built in 1887 and was designed by the prominent architect Kirtland Cutter, who also designed the Spokane County Courthouse and the Davenport Hotel in Spokane.
The courthouse was built at a cost of $50,000 and was constructed using locally sourced sandstone. The building is an excellent example of Romanesque Revival architecture, with its arched windows, ornamental corbelling, and decorative stonework.
Over the years, the courthouse has undergone several renovations and additions. In the early 1900s, a clock tower was added to the building, which became a prominent feature of the Dayton skyline.
